Fall 2010

Project GOTChA chart

Goals

  • Design development: work out a clear, coordinated description of all aspects of the design, including architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems (due 23 Nov 2010).
  • Provide support and input as needed for virtual house tour and physical model (SCI-Arc lead; due 7 Jan 2011)

Technical Challenges

  • Bring new team members up to speed quickly
  • Baseline designs for some subsystems not yet in place
  • Integration of SCI-Arc and Caltech activities

Objectives

  • Refine baseline specifications to insure maximum points in competition
    • Provide full capability with net-zero energy consumption for 80th percentile day
    • Provide zero-net energy consumption with reduced capability on worst case day
  • Establish detailed cost and performance metrics for each subsystem
    • Establish performance specifications for each team/subsystem, tied to competition rules
    • Determine cost targets for each team/subsystem to hit $250K target
  • Develop performance models demonstrating that specifications can be met
  • Document all components on team wiki + project manual

Approach

  • Stick to summer 2010 system architecture decisions
  • Use CS/EE/ME 75 course structure to clock progress
